Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art (Studio)

A Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Art is a professional caste program for artists very seriously interested in the evolution of their artistic expression. This program will require you to contend with yourself equally an artist by fostering your dedication, the definition of your signal of view, your ideas, and the quality of your ways of expression.

Admission Requirements

All applicants must meet University minimum access requirements. Candidates for the BFA in Fine art are required to submit electronically a portfolio of their works to exist reviewed past a departmental committee. The focus of the review will be on quality work, technical power, and consistency. Not all candidates for the BFA will be accepted. The department utilizes the GetAcceptd.com service for the portfolio submissions.

For transfer students, no more 60 credits can be transferred into the BFA program. For current FIU art students who are interested in the BFA plan, no more than lx credits can be earned at the time of application deadline (Feb 15 for Fall / October 15 for Spring).

Portfolio Requirements:

All images submitted must exist in 300 dpi jpeg format, and include – title of work, dimensions, medium, date produced. Portfolios are reviewed by a committee of faculty members. Click here for BFA-Portfolio-Slide-Sample-Instructions

Portfolio of work – 20 images

Option i

• v images of observational drawings and/or figurative drawings.
• 15 images representing skill and creativity in the bidder's desired studio focus such as Cartoon, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Ceramics, and Printmaking.

Option 2

• twenty images of applicant's best artwork representing skill and inventiveness.

Portfolios are reviewed by a committee of faculty members. Once admission decision is made, applicants will exist notified shortly after.

Bookish Standards

To progress into upper-division BFA in Art Major courses, students must complete the four lower division foundation courses (12 credits) with a minimum GPA of 2.75 or greater in two attempts or fewer.

These courses include:

  • ART 1201C 2d Design
  • Fine art 1203C 3D Blueprint
  • ART 2300C Beginning Drawing
  • ART 2330C Starting time Figure Drawing

Drops after the add/driblet flow, which event in a DR form are considered an try in the course and count as an unsuccessful enrollment. Students who practice non satisfy this requirement will be advised to change major to other degrees such as BA in Art History or BA in Interdisciplinary Studies.
